Shirdi, regarded as the spiritual town with devotees from across the world, is a small hamlet located in Rahata Tahasil, Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. shirdi is famous for being the place of 19th century Guru shirdi Sai Baba. This legendary sage of India, Sai Baba of shirdi lived here for most of the 80 years of his life. Sai Baba is regarded as a saint by both his Hindu and Muslim devotees. The town became prominent after the death of the saint in the year 1918. This famous religious sacred destination in India is dotted with numerous tourist places and pilgrim spots. Legends of shirdi Sai Baba can be traced back in the middle of the last century. Sai Baba, as a boy of about 16 years of age, first appeared here under a Neem tree and performed a hard penance. For about 60 years, the sage dedicated his life to boost up the life of the poor and suffering. Through his teachings, he tried to merge Hinduism and Islam. The mosque in which Sai Baba lived is called Dwarkamai. He practiced Hindu and Muslim rituals and was buried in a Hindu temple in shirdi. This popular saint is worshipped by people all around the world. After his death this place has become a major tourist Attractions in shirdi. The other places of interest nearer are the Samadhi Mandir of shirdi Sai Baba, built by a devotee of Sai Baba of shirdi, Shreemant Gopalrao Buti in 1917-1918, this is the place where Sai Baba went into his Samadhi (memorial). The devotee wished to install the idol of a Hindu deity here, but Sai Baba himself became the deity. After he passed away, his memorial was built here using white marble. Once it was a waste land and later turned into a flower garden by Sai Baba himself. He used to water it daily. Next to this is a Nandadeep, a lamp used to be lit by Baba each day in the pit dug by him. This pit has been changed into a marble lighthouse, with a glass box where the lamp is still burning. Other attractions of Lendi Baug Garden are Datta Mandir of Lord Dattatreya, samadhi of Sai Baba’s horse, Sham Sundar, and Baba’s Shivdi. Samadhi of Abdulbaba This is the memorial of Abdulbaba, one of the most ardent followers of Sai Baba, who used to read out the Quran to him. Located nearby the Sai Baba Temple, this Samadhi is one of the prime tourist attractions in shirdi that houses photos and various items that were used by Sai Baba and him. Baba, along with his nearest followers, used to stay here at every alternate nights. Because of this reason, this place has achieved a great importance. Every Thursday the Palakhi from DwarkaMai arrives here. Baba’s Photograph, his Paduka (slippers), and Satka are kept in the Palakhi. The chair, on which Baba used to rest, and the bed, on which Baba had his last bath, are also kept in this temple.

Guru Poornima is one of the main festivals celebrated by devotees of shirdi Sai Baba. Other festivals celebrated in shirdi include Dussehra and Ram Navami (Ramnavami). The shirdi Samadhi Mandir remains open for the whole night only on these occasions
